foster to adopt = becoming state certified foster parents with intentions of adopting.
once our home study is complete (should be within the next 2 months) and we are approved/certified, DePelchin will work with CPS to place a child in our home that CPS is >95% sure the child will become available to adopt.
the child becomes available when the parental rights are terminated and there is not a willing and suitable relative to take custody of the child.
once the child becomes available, as the foster parents, we'll be given first choice to adopt the child.
from that point, we have to wait 6 months to file the final paperwork with the court.
once the child is placed with us, there's still the slight chance that a last minute relative will surface and/or an even slighter chance the parents will get their act together. this is scary.
we know that doing this means we are foster parents first.
we know it will be very hard ..
we hope to stay strong knowing we provided a safe haven for the child while we could.
