process.

the meeting with paige went well. we are now officially "on the list." she was very excited that we do not have a race preference and has already submitted us for a little boy. she gave us homework -- create a one page profile which we completed last night and put together a detailed scrapbook.

the process works like this:

1. when cps has a "legal risk" or "foster to adopt" placement, they put out a statewide broadcast about the child.

2. case workers have apprx. 7 days to submit any/all their families who are interested in the child.

3. cps spends several weeks narrowing the list of families down to 3.

4. the case goes to a 4-way -- meeting between cps and case workers of the three families. cps presents detailed information on the child; case workers present detailed info on their families. this is where the scrapbook comes in. paige will show it to cps so they can see who we are. cps makes a final decision that day.

5. if the child is from harris county, the judge must approve the family selection. the case goes before the judge one to two days after the 4-way. once the judge's approval has been granted, the child will be placed with the selected family in 24 to 48 hours.

6. in all other region's, the cps decision stands and the child will be placed with the selected family in 24 to 48 hours after the 4-way.

7. once the child is placed with us, we will remain foster parents for 6 months or until the parental rights are terminated.

even though our chances of adopting are better through this process, it's still risky. it's not 100%.

she also told us we can accept an emergency placement if it's a legal risk placement. we have to verify that the goal is adoption.

it means - paige received a broadcast for a baby boy yesterday - she submitted us as one of her interested families. if we are one of the final three, she will present us at the 4-way. it could be 3 or 4 weeks before cps determines the final three families.
