New Braunfels, Summer 2011

We made two trips to New Braunfels this summer. Memorial Weekend, we took Rocki and had a great time boating and swimming. Layla loved playing at the water's edge! She doesn't ever play solo ... but I think she would've stayed right there by herself all day!

Our second trip, with Bianca, was last weekend. We went school clothes shopping - exhausting. After two hours, Tiara only had one outfit! She put it in gear after that. I have to mention that the highlight of her day was finding a half-off sale on Toms shoes. She was off with Bianca while Mom, Shae and I shopped with the little girls. Darrin came up with his little ones and we had fun boating with them on Saturday. Shae and Matthew took their first trip in the tube without a grown up! We discovered the water park at Landa park. It's right on the river and the kids had a blast sliding and chasing minnows in the shallow water. We celebrated Lori's birthday with Mom & Dad at Huisache Grill and Wine Bar (excellent!) and then headed back to the cabin for a surprise Star Wars party with the girls (Shae's idea!). It was a fantastic long weekend that we hated to see end.

Layla's 3rd Birthday

We surprised her with a redecorated bedroom. Walls went from yellow to pink.. Mom (TaTa) made her a quilt and valance.. added some Minnie Mouse accents and voila. She was so excited and rushed to show everyone who stopped by!

She wanted another Minnie Mouse party so that's what she got! Lori made some precious cupcakes. We rented a moonwalk for the backyard (that we managed to take zero pictures of) and we had a house full of family and friends to celebrate.

For time's sake, I'm trying a new method for pictures... check out:

layla's little incident

layla popped her elbow out of place last night (swinging around). we took her to the ER and they popped it back in place, or so they said. her arm was still hurting pretty bad so they put a splint on it and told us to follow up with her regular doctor next week. holly called first thing this morning and they told us to go ahead and bring her in. apparently, they've seen issues with the ER putting bones back in place properly...and they were right. they popped it back in place, again, and finally layla is feeling much better :)

blue jean

we took shae to see tangled when it first came out in theaters last november. we all loved it! about a month ago, we were talking about the characters in the movie and how we were ready for it to come out on dvd. shae mentioned "blue jean." who's blue jean? she said, "rapunzel's boyfriend, mom." i said, "flynn rider?" she said, "no! BLUE JEAN." she usually knows what she's talking about so i googled "blue jean from tangled." nothing. i googled the rapunzel story, thinking maybe they read something at school. nothing. we got the dvd friday and watched it yesterday afternoon. turns out, flynn rider's real name is eugene fitzherbert. EUGENE! LOL! lori and i cracked up laughing. shae said, "see, BLUE JEAN!"

kid talk

layla wants everyone to know that she is a "sister." if we call her baby girl or any sweet name she sternly says, "i'm a sister." she's not a baby.. she's not little.. she's not a mess.. she's a SISTER.

shae is in the "monkey class" at school and they make a big deal about being the monkey class. layla may or may not have an animal themed room - we never hear about it. everyday, i ask the girls what they did at school. everyday, layla says, "i colored." therefore, shae has decided that layla is in the "coloring class."

layla is a very picky eater. she has to absolutely be in the mood for something or she will refuse it, even if it's something she really likes. (this applies to everything except candy, cookies, donuts and cake, which she will always eat.) typical exchange:

me: come on, layla, it's time to eat.

layla: i want pancakes.

me: no, we're having spaghetti.

layla: i not.

me: yes, you're eating spaghetti.

layla: i not want it, spaghetti.

shae will be a great spanish speaker one day because, ever since she first started talking, she's put nouns before adjectives. as a toddler, she would say things like "passy white," "passy pink," "dog brown," "ball red."

now she's moved on to things like "paper important," "party birthday."

over christmas, she wanted to help me wrap presents so she was the "taper girl" and she told me, "i'm very capable of tape."

last spring, she asked me why the birds were sitting on the dangerous wire (wire dangerous), referring to the power line. pretty perceptive for a three year old!

shae, "mom, i'm not tattling but i just want you to know, layla is (insert inappropriate action). could you please do something about that?"

and just a few days ago she asked me where her voice comes from.

shae is a half-a-pack-a-day gum chewer (sugar free!). typical exchange:

shae: can i please have a snack?

me: sure. would you like yogurt or apple sauce?

shae: pink gum.

shae speak:

tissue = tennis shoe

meeting = medium

peanut butter & jelly = peaney jelly & butter

walmart = walmark

tu quieres PowPow (do you want a spankin?) = quieres ta pow, pow?
